Henry Ettinghausen discusses the origins of Valencian journalism, on Monday, 28 October, in Philology, Translation and Communication

Professor Henry Ettinghausen gives, on Monday 28 October, a lecture entitled 'Sólo buenas noticias! La primera prensa valenciana' ('Only good news! The first Valencian press'), to mark the inauguration of the academic year of the Master's degree in Languages and Literatures Research. The session will begin at 10:15 at the Saló de Graus of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.

Henry Ettinghausen is a specialist in Spanish and French literature and has a PhD from the University of Oxford. He has been Professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Southampton, from which he is currently Professor Emeritus. He has the Creu de Sant Jordi (2003) for his involvement with studies on Catalan language and literature in the UK. He has researched the plundering of the Salamanca Papers as a member of the Commission for the Dignity. His research on the seventeenth century focuses on Quevedo, autobiographies and relationships of events. In addition to his book 'Francisco de Quevedo and the neostoic movement', and an edition of the 'Sueños' of this author, he has published two facsimile editions of 'Noticias del siglo XVII: relaciones españolas de sucesos naturales y sobrenaturales' ('News of the seventeenth century: Spanish relations of natural and supernatural events') (1993) and 'La Guerra dels Segadors a través de la premsa del seu temps' ('The Reapers War through the press at that time') (4 vols., 1993).

The lecture has been organized in collaboration with the area of Journalism of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.
