Falla Universitaria, the most ecological one, will have two innovative monuments in Plaça del Patriarca; the IRTIC (Robotics and Information Technologies Institute) has designed a mobile device which will allow to read and listen the texts of Na Jordana ‘falla’; and the bands Obrint Pas, Aspencat and Atzembla will play on Saturday at Concert de Falles 2012, a concert organized by Escola Valenciana, with the collaboration of Universitat de València. These are some of the events scheduled for the Valencian festivities’ week.
The Universitat Vella-Plaça del Patriarca falla will have an innovative monument again to recover this way its groundbreaking roots. The sun, an unattainable energy, is the central theme of this critical, reflexive monument, which strays away from the conventional asthetics in the rest of fallas. In 1990, this falla was included in the festivities programme of San Josep. This falla is now 23 years old. The festivities will be presided by its fallera mayor, the lady in charge of representing the falla: Maths lecturer Eva Caplliure. The monument will be put up on March 15th.
The monument, as the vice-president of the falla’s commission –historian and cultural technician Lluís Mesa– has stated, ‘innovative, straying away from last years’ trends in this falla.’ The falla pays tribute to the sun, which enables life in the plantet.
For the third time, the falla’s artist is Filiberto Pons, who comes from Sueca. This year’s falla is devoted to renewable energies. A man that tries to reach the sun with a butterfly net is protrayed. The sun is placed on the top of a pyramid. According to Pons: ‘the monument is about alternative energies and it is an ecological monument, for some of the materials used are waste materials.’ At the same time, a critic to fallas world is present in the work: a special ninot portrays a men curled up like a light bulb. The artist has been working in the creation of fallas for twenty years.
Everybody can enjoy the days 16th, 17th, and 18th at night, when the falla will be open to the public and there will be music in the same Plaça del Patriarca. The falla will be put up on March 15th. The Vice-president, Lluís Mesa, says that they have a hundred members. The budget comes from the members’ contributions, the sponsors, and money collected during the festivity’s days.
