Javier Lluch Tarazona, lecturer of zoology, has been appointed new Dean of Facultat de Ciències Biològiques today. Lluch takes Vicente Roca’s position. His team will be made up of Mª. Luisa Salvador (Vice-dean for international relations), José Fco. Pertusa (studies), Francisco Pérez Sánchez (quality and infrastructures), and Mª José Martínez Sebastián (secretary). Lluch gained 25 votes in favour and 2 blank votes.
Javier Lluch studied at Universitat de València and he finished his doctorate in 1985. Since then, he has been doing research on herpetology, nematology and parasitology. He is a member in several scientific associations, one of the founders of the Asociación Herpetológica Española –currently he is member in its governing board–, and he has been editor of the journal ‘Revista Española de Herpetología’ (today: Basic & Applied Herpetology) in 2002 and 2010.
The new Dean has taught at the faculties of biology and chemistry, and lately he has been participating in several teaching innovation projects. He has also performed different university management positions: coordinator of teaching unit, secretary and director of Departament de Zoologia (from 2006 to 2012). Outside the university context, he has been head of the natural environment conservation body Área de Conservación del Medio Natural at the Conselleria de Medi Ambient (1997-1999).
