VI Premios Vicent Andrés Estellés’ members of the jury awarded the work ‘La linterna maravillosa’ in the category Narrativa Científica-Estudi General (Scientific Narrative-General Study) to José Antonio Gordillo Martorell. This award, worth 3,000 Euros, is organized by the Chair for Science Popularization of Universitat de València and Burjassot’s town council. The book pays tribute to the film pioneer George Albert Smith (1864-1959).

‘Following a piece of news -which inspired this biographical book- about an exhibition at the Science Museum in London, I began to be interested in G. A. Smith, inventor of the first patented system for colour film’, said Gordillo.

José Antonio Gordillo (València, 1970) holds a doctorate in Fine Arts, a degree in Contemporary History and a masters’ degree in Cultural Management (Gestión Cultural). He also works as a science promoter, being the person in charge of the didactic section of València’s Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. The members of the jury were Fernando Sapiña and Aurelio Beltrán, from Universitat de València, and Ignacio Díaz, awarded with the same prize last year with his book Transeünts.

At the same time, Rubén Luzón Díaz was awarded for his poetry work titled Ai. His work prevailed over the rest of contestants. He was born in Valencia in 1982, he has a degree in Catalan Philology and another in Spanish Philology in Universitat de València.

The awarding ceremony, as it is being done over the years, will take place in spring 2012
