The jurist Christian Courtis opens an international event of the Institute of Human Rights

Institute of Human Rights of the Universidad de Valencia (IDH) celebrates Thursday 15 October an international event dedicated to the protection of social rights at an international level, that will be opened by the prestigious jurist Christian Courtis, coordinator of the team for economic, social and cultural rights of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires.

In the international event about social rights some conferences will be given by Abdelhamid Adnane Rkioua, Law professor at Mohamed V de Souissi-Rabat University and Eduardo Rojo Torrecilla, full university professor of Labour Law at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Three panels of experts will be celebrated with the contribution of professors Belén Cardona Rubert, Luís Jimena Quesada, Carmen Salcedo, Milena Bogoni, Thereza Nazas, Carlos L. Alfonso Mellado and Gemma Fabregat.

 

Furthermore, 15 and 16 October 2015, Paris Sorbonne University the holds the II International Congress on cultural diversity and conflicts in the European Union, organised in the context of the research project “Human Rights, multicultural societies and conflicts”, organised by that university and the Institute of Human Rights of the Universidad de Valencia (IDH). Like in the first edition, that took place at the Universitat de València in 2014, the congress will offer the opportunity to analyse the new political, social and legal challenges bonded to cultural diversity and the conflicts that tend to arise in the European Union. The congress, directed by Ángeles Solanes (professors at the Universitat de València) and Géraldine Galeote (professor at the Paris Sorbonne University), will pay special attention to the public or private dimension of conflicts, as well as to the emergence of new collective entities and to the study of discriminatory policies implemented at community level.

 

The intense activity programme of the Institute of Human Rights of the Universidad de Valencia (IDH), which celebrates in parallel the VIII Conference on Security and Defence, will be celebrated Monday 19 October. Jose Ramón Cossío, Supreme Court of Mexico Judge and professor of the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, will give a seminar and a masters session.
