The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Universitat de València and the Research Group of Rare Diseases of the Institute for Health Research from the Hospital Clínico, INCLIVA, gather doctors and researchers specialised in rare diseases in València, with a complete programme that will present during two days the latest developments on rare diseases that are being carried out in Spain and the technology platforms that exist for their study.
The conference, led by the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Federico Pallardó, will take place in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Assembly Hall today, Tuesday 25, and tomorrow Friday, 26 February.
The experts will bring together their knowledge about the nature of the diseases, the efficiency of registers, the clinical developments of the diagnosis and treatment and new lines of research. The second day of the conference will be closed by a debate on the problematic of rare diseases, led by the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases.
The event is directed to specialists, residents, paediatricians, doctors, general practitioners and students, due to the characteristics of this type of diseases. Furthermore, considering that in the last years it has significantly increased the interest of patient associations in the knowledge of their diseases, the congress is open for patients and family that so wish. And also, to everyone that has and special sensibility and interest in this kind of diseases.
The conference is part of the many activities that will be carried out in February in the Valencian Community on the occasion of the Rare Disease Day.
INCLIVA and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Universitat de València are pioneers of the research on Rare Diseases
The Institute for Health Research INCLIVA is, so far, the only accredited institute that counts on a research line on Rare Diseases, that is also one of the most actives of the Institute. It is noted that, in the heart of the group, it was formed in 2014, in collaboration with the Biomedical Research Networking Centre (CIBER), a spin off, EPIDISEASE, dedicated to epigenetics.
Additionally, a INCLIVA initiative of last year created the alliance of the translational research on rare diseases of the Valencian Community, coordinated by the Universal and Public Health Department in which all the entities that research on this area in the community are included.
Also, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Universitat de València is a pioneer in Spain, offering an optional specific subject about rare diseases in the medicine degree.
