
Francisco José Ayala, outstanding geneticist and molecular biologist, is giving a lecture on ‘Fundamentos biológicos de la ética’ today at the faculty of philosophy and education science’s main hall. This event is part of the master’s degree and doctorate programmes in ethics and democracy. The lecture is scheduled at 19:00.
Francisco J. Ayala is Donald Bren Professor of Biological Sciences from University of California and honoris causa doctor from Universitat de València. This geneticist born in Madrid in 1934 is one of the most outstanding scientists still working. He is an expert in evolution biology and specially in the reproduction of the parasite causing the Chagas disease, an illness affecting millions of people. He is also known by his work about malaria, which is spread by mosquitoes and causes the death to many people in some part of the world.
He has also worked on the relations between science and religion. He consideres these two disciplines are not conflicting each other.
