Manuel Pérez Alonso, professor of the Department of Genetics of the University and director of the Genomic Medicine Institute (Imegen), at the Parc Científic, has been awarded with the Healthcare Innovation Prize by the Rare Diseases Social Development and Research Institute (Indepf), a organisation dedicated to the research and social dissemination of this type of pathologies in order to improve the quality of life of patients.
Manuel Pérez Alonso is Doctor in Biology and Tenured Professor of Genetics of the Universitat de València. His activity as a researcher is focused on Molecular Genetics and on Genomics Applied to Medicine. He participated in several research international programmes, including three genome sequencing consortiums. He directed more than 20 research projects and he authored more than 50 international scientific publications, and it has to be highlighted the three articles published in the prestigious journal Nature. He is author of three biotechnological patents licensed to the biotechnological industry. As a Scientific entrepreneur, he is the promoter and founding member of several biotechnological companies dedicated to Biomedicine.
Founded in 2009 by a team of scientists with more than 20 years of business experience, Imegen has become the leader of the genetics and genomics sector.
