Singer-songwriter Amancio Prada, accompanied by cellist Georgina Sánchez Torres, offers the second of the concerts of Serenates 2014 at the Cloister of La Nau this Wednesday, 25 June, at 22:30. Prada will offer the recital ‘Inèdits i clàssics’ (Unpublished and classics), that stages the compilation work entitled ’40 anys de Vida e Morte’ (40 years of Vide e Morte).
Forty years ago Amancio Prada (vocals and guitar) recorded his first album, ‘Vida e Morte’ (1974). “You could say that this album is the origin of everything that came after. It is everything I have composed and sung over the years. Forty is a round number”, says the artist.
In ‘Inèdits i clàssics’, Prada takes as its starting point the songs from his album “fundacional” (foundational), conceiving the recital “as an opportunity to also show compositions, old or recent, that I have not recorded yet because they have not found their place in monographic recordings, along with others that, although recorded, have been left out of the recital. Different songs, as good as others, slept on the strings of my guitar…” he explains. And he continues: “You’ll be surprised, I’m sure”.
The musical career of Amancio Prada (Dehesas del Bierzo, 1949) as a composer and performer has always had a literary basis throughout his discography, consisting of thirty works, has been shaping an anthological route through Peninsular poetry, from the ‘Cantigas’ (poems) by early Galician-Portuguese troubadours (XII and XIII centuries), through the songbook by Juan del Enzina, Jorge Manrique, sant Joan de la Creu and Rosalía de Castro, to contemporary artists such as Federico García Lorca, Juan Ramón Jiménez, María Zambrano, Carmen Martín Gaite and Juan Carlos Mestre, among others.
He has received the Castelao Medal of Galicia (1995), the Award of Castille and Leon Arts (2005), the Grand Prix du Répertoire Sacem (2008), the Tenco Award (2010) and the Golden Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts (2011), among other awards.
Moreover, cellist Georgina Sánchez Torres, who will accompany him in this recital, has been awarded by around thirty awards and has given more than two hundred concerts in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria and throughout all Spanish geography.
This year, the festival offers eleven concerts, from 24 June until 7 July, at the Cloister of the Cultural Centre La Nau. All begin at 22:30 and entrance is free with invitation that has to be collected from one hour before at the concierge of La Nau.
