The Cultural Centre La Nau holds this Thursday, 10 March, the civil homage to Gonzalo Montiel, director of Cultural Management of the Universitat de València in La Nau, who died last 26 December. Under the name ‘Homenatge a Gonzalo Montiel (1968-2015) Memòria i utopia’ (Homage to Gonzalo Montiel [1968-2015] Memory and Utopia), the event will take place in the Paranymph, at 19:00 and are planned, among other interventions, the one of the principal Esteban Morcillo. The event will be broadcasted live via http://mediauni.uv.es.
The vice-principal of Culture and Equality, Antonio Ariño, will also participate, and Daniel González Serisola, who was Delegate for Students of the Universitat when Montiel worked in the CADE (Student Guidance and Promotion Centre) of the Universitat, among other people. There are also planned the words of partners, relatives and friends to show the wide experience of a person heavily involved with the university (as a technique and manager of the Universitat de València and as a teacher in the Universitat Jaume I), and in a social area (youth, patrimony and gender equality).
Gonzalo Montiel, director of Cultural Management of the Universitat de València in La Nau, suddenly died while he was practising sport. Montiel had coordinated the CADE until 2011, had been as adjunct lecturer in the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón and was member of the Gender Based Violence Research Group of the Universitat de València.
As an elected member of the University Senate, he was part of the Governing Council of the Universitat de València in two periods, between 2002 and 2006, and between 2010 and 2013.
He was graduate in Hispanic Studies and Audiovisual Communication, master’s degree graduate in Journalism and Communication, and doctor in Audiovisual Communication by the Universitat de València. He was adjunct lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of the Universitat Jaume I in Castelló, where he lectured the subjects Theory of Communication and Social Stratification.
As a professor and researcher he participated in several R&D projects and published some books, articles and chapters in scientific publications focused on the theory of communication, youth, gender, industrial patrimony and photography. The was founding member of AMIMO (Asociación Memoria Industrial y Movimiento Obrero), from the collective ‘La Compañía’ and from the Comisión Ciudadana para la Defensa de la Gerencia del Puerto de Sagunto (Citizen's Commission for the Defence of the Management of Puerto de Sagunto)
Gonzalo Montiel was born in Puerto de Sagunto, he was married with Elena Martínez, full university professor of Administrative and Procedural Law at the Universitat de València, and was father of two girls: Martina and Olivia.
Programme of the I Conference of Sociocultural Contribution of the Valencian Public Universities
One of the projects where he was working, as technique of cultural management in the moment of his death, was the first edition of the Conference of Sociocultural Contribution of the Valencian Public Universities.
This first meeting will bring together tomorrow, 10 March, in the Aula Magna of the Cultural Centre La Nau vice-principals of culture of Valencian public system universities and staff who work in the different units of cultures of the universities. The opening ceremony, at 10:30, will be presided by the vice-principal of Culture and Equality, Antonio Ariño, and the General Head of Culture and Patrimony, Carmen Amoraga.
Later, it is planned the participation of vice-principals of implicated universities which will express the fundamental lines of his work. The conference will conclude with groups of work of the staff of different cultural areas (exhibitions, music, performing arts, drama...).
