Photographer Emilio Andrés Codina presents his exhibition ‘Consumismo y abandono. Impacto del hombre en su entorno, las consecuencias de los excesos del consumo’ (Consumerism and abandonment. Impact of men on their environment, consequences of abusing cosumerism) at La Nau cultural centre. This exhibition is orgaized by the General Foundation’s Trust Martínez Guerricabeitia and it shows 25 photos including two dyptiches. It intends to make people think on our current way of life.
The pictures were taken in Salton Sea lake in the state of California, USA. This lake is considered the most polluted lake in the country due to sewage and industry wastes of near towns. An abandoned place which contrasts with the idea of ‘the American dream’.
According to the activities director in Trust Martínez Guerricabeitia ‘PMG has always been open to any art exhibition and it has considered a good idea to collaborated with Espai d’Art Fotogràfic in order to present the finalist works of the master’s degree it is offering.’
So, this exhibition comes up from the work done at the Máster en Fotografía of the school Espai d’Art Fotogràfic in Valencia, where the students must, during a whole academic year, develop a photo project based on a topic suggested by the teachers. Nicolás Llorens, the schoolmaster, supervised all the projects, as well as the international photographer, Philipp Scholz Rittermann.
The master’s degree main goal is the creation of a professional art project, which would let the school Espai d’Art Fotogràfic help the students to enter the professional world. Among all the projects carried out at the master’s degree, the panel of judges chose that of Emilio Andrés Codina. The jury was made up of Francesc Vera (lecturer of photography at Facultat de Belles Arts in Universitat Politècnica de València), Román de la Calle (full professor of aesthetics at Universitat de València) y Tomás Llorens (art critic).
