The prizes for the first stage for the Mathematical Olympiad have been awarded

The University of Valencia and the Universitat Politècnica awarded last Friday, 1st February, the district phase prizes for the Mathematical Olympiad. Consequently, a representation of the selected students by the Valencia Public Universities will participate in the Spanish Mathematical Olympiad, scheduled for April in Bilbao.

The winners were Alejandro Martínez, Requena; Miquel Camarasa, Carlet; and Andrés Planells, Requena, from the University of Valencia. And Damià Torres, Alginet; Alejandro Martos, Almàssera; and Oriol Ruiz, Sedaví, form the Universitat Politécnica. During the ceremony, official accreditations and some gifts were presented. The respective universities also offered the possibility of free-enrolment for the degree programs of both universities.

The session was chaired by the Vice-Principal for Studies and Language Policy, Isabel Vázquez. The Vice-Principal for International Relations and Cooperation, Olga Gil; María José Lorente, Principal’s delegate for Incorporation to University; Rafael Crespo, Dean of the Faculty; and the Vice-Principal for Student’s body (Universitat Politècnica), Victoria Vivancos also attended the event.

The organizers have highlighted the youth of the winners, since two of them, Damià Torres and Alejandro Martínez, were the winners of the last edition, and together with other two students, they are still studying fourth year of ESO (compulsory secondary education) and first year of Bachillerato (Spanish upper secondary school education).
