Ramón Ferrer, reelected President of the Valencian Academy of the Language

The retired professor of the Universitat de València Ramón Ferrer will head five more years the Valencian Academy of the Language. He has obtained an absolute majority of the votes cast by academicians in a plenary session held this morning at the Monastery Sant Miquel dels Reis. The other candidate and vice-president until now, Josep Palomero, has obtained seven votes and two other academicians have put a blank vote.

The rest of the Governing Board is composed by Joan Rafael Ramos (vice-president), Verònica Cantó (secretary), Immaculada Cerdà and Honorat Ros (chairpersons).

The reelected president of this normative institution has promised to strengthen the institutional relationships with the aim of making the Valencian Academy of the Language visible, increasing an image of “stability, credibility, trust, prestige and transparency obtained with a great deal of effort in the last five years”.  In particular, Ferrer has addressed to the relationships with the Valencian Government, universities, the Interuniversity Institute of Valencian Philology, the publishing sector and those communities and entities in favour of the promotion of the Valencian language.

Likewise, Ramon Ferrer has declared himself in favour of the creation of bridges of dialogue to consolidate the relationships with the Institut d’Estudis Catalans and other cultural entities within the linguistic field. He want to achieve “an understanding that allows a respectful regulation with the diversity which will reinforce the role of AVL as a Valencian sample and will consolidate its prestige”.  Ferrer has also pointed out the “praiseworthy steps” taken in relation to the Royal Academy of Valencian Culture and has said that “it is necessary to continue working in order to became representatives with the framework established by the Academy”.

Finally, the president of AVL has expressed the need to improve the resources of the institution, elaborate an action plan with realistic predictions, go ahead in the consolidation of the academic works and promote the dissemination task of the activities encouraged by the Academy.  Ferrer has also defended the admission of prestigious people in the institution and the correction of the difference between the amount of women and men in order to achieve the equality.
