
Registration for the courses organized by Chair UNESCO in the first term of the 2012-2013 academic year –from October to December- is open. Self-registration is possible in the web site www.fguv.org/cursos-cooperacion until the beginning of each course. The courses, on human development and cooperation, will be taught by lecturers from other universities brought by Universitat de València.
Courses programme and self-registration are available clicking this link. This year, Chair UNESCO suggests three different courses. The first is beginning in October 15. The courses can be officially recognized and get free-election credits.
This first course, titled Migraciones, asociacionismo inmigrante y desarrollo local: balance y perspectivas desde la inmigración latinoamericana en los Estados Unidos (Migrations, immigrant associations and local development: results and prospects from Latin American immigration in the United States) will be taught from 15 to 18 October, from 16:00 to 18:30, at the Facultat de Ciències Socials’ boardroom. The person in charge of the course will be lecturer Luis Escala Rabadán from the Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana, Mexico. He will explain, among other things, the contemporary immigration and development scenes.
From October 22 to November 15, the course La astronomía como vía de desarrollo humano (Astronomy as a way to human development) is scheduled. It will be devided in three parts to be taught from 22 to 25 October, from 5 to 8 November, and from 12 to 15 November. Daniel R. Altschuler Stern, full professor of physics at Universidad de Puerto Rico, will talk about statistical and probabilistic thinking, reasoning principles, and cognitive bias.
Los desafíos del cambio climático para nuestros paradigmas de desarrollo (Climatic change challenges for our developement models) is the last course and it will also be taught in three parts. The general part will be from 19 to 22 November, and the two modules will be from 26 to 29 November and from 10 to 13 December. Peadar Kirbe will be the lecturer. He teaches internatioal politics at University of Limerick, Ireland. The course will be held at Facultat de Dret.
Chair UNESCO, seventeen years at Universitat de València
Chair UNESCO is created at our university in September 1994 thanks to the signing of an agreement with UNESCO. From its beginning it is linked to South-North Trust in the General Foundation of Universitat de València. It promotes cooperation activities with institutions of developing countries. They are specially aimed at inter-university cooperation and cooperation training for human and sustainable development.
