Sami Naïr analyzes the riots in the Arab countries at the Human Rights Institute

The University’s Human Rights Institute is hosting, 10th and 11th November, the XVII Jornadas de Derecho Internacional Humanitario (the symposium on international humanitarian law). This time the symposium is devoted to analyze the transformational role of society in the current crisis, and especially is focusing on the riots taking place in the Arab countries. Among other speakers, the symposium is receiving Sami Naïr, lecturer on Political Studies at the University of Paris VIII. The symposium is going to be inaugurated at 17:15 p.m. by the Faculty of Law’s dean, Salvador Montesinos; the IDH director, Consuelo Ramón; and by a Red Cross representative at the conference hall.

The symposiym represents a meeting and reflection space for experts and well-known researchers from national and internacional universities and science centres. It is going to be inaugurated at the conference hall of the Faculty of Law (Tarongers campus) by the dean, Salvador Montesinos; de IDH’s director, Consuelo Ramón; and a Red Cross representative. The sessions are taking place throughout 10th November and are continuing on Friday the 11th. They will be finished with a speech (at 18:00 p.m.) by Javier de Lucas (full professor on law philosophy and Colegio de España in Paris’s director). The closure lecture will be given by Sami Naïr.

The University’s Human Rights Institute (IDH) was crated in 2005 by the lecturer Consuelo Ramón. It has been awarded with the quality award by the Spanish Ministry of Education because of its doctoral studies curriculum Derechos Humanos, Democracia y Justicia Internacional (Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice). It also received a grant by the Consolider-Ingenio 2010 programme in 2008, and it is part of a project in which twelve research groups of Spain collaborate guided by the Institute of Human Rights Bartolomé de las Casas from the University Carlos III of Madrid.
