The Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia (Quart Street, 80), will host this Sunday the traditional Science Festival between 11:00 and 14:00. This free event is part of the activities of the 14th European Week of Science, Technology and Innovation. Organized by by the Chair for Scientific Dissemination UCC+i, which has the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and CAM.
The Science Festival this year is based on the promotion of renewable energies, due to this year is the International Year of Sustainable Energy and also because the environmental commitment of the University of Valencia, materialized by the programme Campus Sostenible. Thus, in a cheerful and highly participatory environment children can participate in a treasure hunt, paint their faces, take an interactive stroll through energies and participate in workshops as solar cooking, toys, pumpkins, grinder wind, the dragon or the balloon car. The activities have been created by the Teaching Centre of the Botanical Garden and the company Ginkgo Education.
The sala d'exposicions of the Botanical Garden also hosts these days and until 2 December, the exhibition 'Fotografs de Natura 2012' from the prestigious European Wildlife Photographer of the year 2012, organized by the Association of German Nature Photographers. The exhibition, of free admission, consists of 70 unpublished snapshots taken by professionals from 39 countries.
Until the end of December will continue the activities included in 'La ciència, el teu futur', the main programme of the 14th European Week of Science, Technology and Innovation sponsored by the Chair for Science Dissemination. This action consists in conferences by scientists from the University of Valencia, CSIC and the University of Alicante, at Secondary Schools and also in Mathematics Routes through the city of Valencia and workshops of astronomy, geology and mathematics at the campus Burjassot-Paterna. These activities have the objective of awake scientific vocations among teenagers.
