Soledad Gandía, lecturer of earth physics, is the new Dean of the Universitat de València’s Facultat de Física. Gandía obtained 23 votes, while the other candidate, Pedro Andrés, had 20 votes. Gandía’s team will be made up of José Luis Cruz, Germán de Valcárcel, Fernando Martínez and Juan Pastor Graells.
Soledad Gandía Franco (Villanueva de Castellón, 1952) finished her degree in 1974 at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and she obtained her PhD in 1983 at Universitat de València. She has been a lecture at the UPC’s Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura (1975–1977). At the Universitat de València’s Facultat de Física, she has holded different teaching positions from 1978–1986 and she is a tenured lecturer since 1986.
She has been teaching for 36 years at all university levels both at the physics degree and at others. She has six teaching five-year periods, and she is editor of some teaching publications of remote-sensing courses as well as author of some of the articles included in them.
She has participated in projects for the European Space Agency and the European Union, and in other national and regional projects. Moreover, she has published papers on micrometeorology, environmental pollution and, specially, on remote-sensing.
The new Dean has been secretary of the department of earth physiscs and thermodynamics (1987-1989 y 1998-2004), secretary of the Facultat de Física (2004- 2005), member of the Universitat de València’s Governing Council representing the university senate (2005-2006), director of the Departament de Física de la Terra i Termodinàmica from 2005, and a University Senate and Faculty Commission’s member.
Finally, she has coordinated the design of the Universitat de València’s Máster Oficial de Teledetección, where she is director since 2009, and she is director of the doctorate studies Doctorado de Teledetección since 2009 as well.
