Yesterday, the cultural centre La Nau opened a new exhibition at 20:00. Its title is ‘Rehogar. Soluciones para el hábitat a partir de residuos’ and can be visited until November 1st. It invites to reflect through art on the current situation: we are living a moment of history when people produces an uncontrolled amount of waste. The venue is La Nau’s Sala Oberta, which is transformed for the occasion into a house where the furniture is made with waste materials.

The current obsolescence of the habitat objects is causing a bad use of the resources we have got in our planet. Other world is possible if we can transform matter. This is visible in the objects shown.

Rehogar is an exhibition organized by Makea Tu Vida, a non-profit association with an artistic, social, and educational aim for the active recycling. It works on raising people’s awareness on environmental issues and on the problem of the waste materials in our society. Universitat de València and its General Foundation cooperate in the exhibition as well.

The exhibition wants to stand out the potential of taking advantage of waste materials, and tries to show that a different way of designing is possible. It suggests a tour aroung an habitat where all the objects come from waste to be constructed: from the reuse of materials to the use of recycled materials.

We start from the premise that believes that design is able to transmit ideas, concepts, and attitutes. What’s the role of designers in the overproduction world? Can we influence society through design? Can we create objects that make people think? Why do we have to produce more if there is already enough?

Rehogar starts with a meeting where designers, architects, artists, students and amateurs are invited to present their ideas of furniture and home accessories made from waste materials. Thanks to all these objects, the house is transformed into an space where all its elements start from waste to be constructed. This third edition of REHOGAR 2012 is framed under the event Disechos’12, which is titled Del Diseño al Hecho, and presents lectures, workshops, exhibitions, etc. around the design experimenting with reuse.

This edition of REHOGAR 2012 is having the works by Atelier Melis, System Design Studio, Arquitectura Se Mueve, Duasenzatre, Proyecto Asilo, Naranja Sureste, Forniture, Equipo Nómada, Empalm&2, Recicla2, Victoria Navarro, Alba Gil, 1Unik, Lucia Martinez Arts&Crafts, David Recalde, Paco Contreras, Franco Reyes, Laura Donate, Silvia Bolumar, Tomas Gorria, Equipo Ah!, Mercedes Moreno, Pedro Luis Carretero, Giorgio Ceste, Pilar Monteagudo, Foundcrelamps, Reutilizarte, Madre in Spain, Ana Escalante, Guido Puccioni, Maria Fiter, Cota 2.85, Las Rómulas, Taller Re, RV Disseny, Alvaro Navarro, Proyect @3, Konvertible, Alicia Fernandez, Arquiroflexia, Marisa Stinga, OOOMydesign, Vicente Pinarello, Spook Toys, La Col, ReFarm the City, among others.
