Today Monday 15 July it is started the XXX Universitat d'Estiu de Gandia (Gandia's Summer University), whose motto is: "Europe: reality or fiction. Problem and solution." The opening day will start at 19h, and the speech will start at 20h, in the care of Enrique Barón, Minister for Transport, Turism and Communication (1982-1985) and president of the European Parlament (1989-1992), who will talk about "A decalogue for Europe".
At 19 hours, in the University of Valencia's International Centre the people responsible of the Universitat d'Estiu de Gandia (Gandia's Summer University) during these thirty years will be welcomed. Later, the exhibition "30 years of Universitat d'Estiu de Gndia: from dreams to reality" will be inaugurated , in which the last three decades of this summer date will be revised. The event will be led by the University of Valencia's Principle, Esteban Morcillo; Gandia's mayor, Arturo Torró; and the regionl secretary for Education, Rafael Carbonell.
Then, the retinue will go to the Marquise's House where the inaugural speech will be done by Enrique Barón. The event will start at 20h and it will be open to the general public.
An edition dedicated to Europe
This thirtieth edition of the Universitat d'Estiu de Gandia is dedicated to think about the present and future of Europe. An edition that is presented as an space to think about the idea of Europe as the possible exit of the difficult situation that society is living currently.
The courses' offer is divided in two content blocks. The first one tries to analyse the idea of Europe from the culture, history, language, human rights, the University, labour market, law or politics and the other one is about a diverse topics which answer the different questions and knowledge of the student where courses dedicated to Pediatrics, the active ageing, egalitarian language or the heritage of health will be found
The enrolment for the courses is still open and can be made official through the centre's web www.uv.es/cig as well as through the facilities of the University of Valencia in Gandia (Calle Tossal, 8).
Regarding the open activities, it has beed programmed as usually a cicle of round-table discussions which will be held at 20 hours in the Marquise's House and where the discussion will turn around the crisis of democratic values, european cinema, the situation in the Valencian Country in a Europe in crisis or the Valencian company in the current context. We have to highlight the round-table discussion of the 19 July in which the General Secretaries of the parties with representation in Les Corts will take part: Serafín Castellano (PP), Marga Sanz (EU), Ximo Puig (PSPV) and Enric Morera (Compromís). Meanwhile, from 23h in the Marquise's House garden, the leading role will be for the theatre, music and cinema.
The thatre will be in charge of the Compañía Escena Erasmus (Erasmus Scene Company) on the first night, which will play "Los Viajeros" (The Travelers), and in which basically European students will perform. There will also be a moment for cinema on the 17 and 18 nights, with the projections of "La gran ilusión" of Jean Renoir and "London River" of Rachid Bouchareb respectively. Meanwhile, the music will be the star on the 19, 22 and 23 July nights. The first night will be dedicated to pay homage to Estellés with the show of poetry and music "Estellés de mà a mà". The rest of nights will be for music of the world with the bluegrass dream of Pilgrims and the blues of the Sáhara of Aziza Brahim respectively.
