
Professor Alicia Puleo lectures on ‘Feminismo y Ecología: un reto de nuestro siglo’ on Wednesday 8 June. It will take place at 19.00 in The Rector Peset Hall of Residence of the UV. Alicia Puleo is the author of ‘Ecofeminismo para otro mundo posible’ (Ecofeminism for another possible world). She is director of the ‘Feminismos’ collection in Ediciones Cátedra publisher and professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy in the University of Valladolid.
Alicia Puleo is a reference in the ecofeminist perspective. This line of thought, specially followed in Latin America, suggests that the common goals are the fight for gender equality and environmental conservation as an improvement of the quality of life of society. Philosopher states that feminism and ecology are to be two essential social movements of 20th century.
She was finalist for the National Prize awarded by Spain’s Ministry of Culture in the Essays section thanks to her work ‘Dialéctica de la sexualidad. Género y sexo en la Filosofía Contemporánea’ (1992). In 2004 she coordinated in the edition of the work ‘Mujeres y Ecología: Historia, Pensamiento, Sociedad’ in which the relationship between the ecologist and the feminist movements, and the different experiences in Spain and in the international level was put together. In 2011, she published ‘Ecofeminismo para otro mundo posible’, a work in which in addition to suming up the history of ecofeminism and analysing the contributions by the feminist movement to the ecologist -not always recognised, she developes her proposal named critical or enlightened ecofeminism. In September 2014 she assumed management of ‘Feminismos’ collection in Editorial Cátedra publisher, replacing full university professor of the UV Isabel Morant. In 2015 she published the collective book ‘Ecología y género en diálogo interdisciplinar’, in which the socio-cultural schemes hatching the relationships between bodies and the ecosystem we in which we live in are analysed.
