The Aula Magna of the Cultural Centre La Nau hosts Monday, December 15 19:00, the presentation of the number 45 of the magazine “Pasajes”, published by the University of Valencia. The dossier of this issue is devoted to "Changes in work and new poverty”, and features articles of Miguel Ángel García Calavia, Fernando Díez, Ester García Moscardó and Anthony Iles.
It also includes an interview with Danièle Linhart, renowned French expert on sociology of work and author of the book “To Work without the others?” (PUV).
In the dossier 'Changes in work and new poverty' items for discussion on current issues in the workplace, the devaluation of work, the tensions generated by the productivist pressure disqualification of large segments of the workforce are provided, the effects of changes in production processes and relocations, causes and consequences of rising unemployment, and growing social inequalities.
The dossier proposes a historical and current look at processes that are experienced in the world of work. Articles of Miguel Angel Garcia and Fernando Díez Calavia are about the fragility of the link between work and society and work history, respectively. Danièle Linhart discusses new forms of governance (the new “human resource management”) and its social and psychological effects. Esther García Moscardó provides dates and arguments about increasing inequality and growing social polarization. Anthony Iles, meanwhile, places the evolution of work (Taylorism to Fordism and beyond) in the context of capitalist development, the influence of scientific models and the growing perception of ecological limits.
This new issue of “Pasajes”, besides the dossier, offers several articles by authors like Julian Marrades (“Rembrandt, painting and vision”), Carlo Ginzburg (“Readers of Proust”), Sandra Santana (“La Caña Gris, philosophy and commitment”) or Sarah Frioux-Salgas (“The “Black Atlantic” by Nancy Cunard”). For his part, Manuel Peris makes a complete approach to the work of the recent Nobel Prize Patrick Modiano, from the perspective of history and memory, from the vicissitudes of French intellectuals during the Nazi occupation.
