More than 200 years of contemporary history of the city of Valencia, 200 years of evolution and changes are captured in many lines of research and divide the book into two volumes of more than 1000 pages and more than 50 collaborators. Colegio Mayor Rector Peset was the host of a presentation of the book “Válencia, 1808-2015. La història continua” (“Valencia, 1808-2015. History continues”), led by two UV professors, Josep Sorribes and Juan Carlos Colomer.

Vice-principal of Culture and Equality, Antonio Ariño and África Ramírez, the editor in chief of Balandra Edicions, a publishing hourse which was set up last year gave speeches during the event.

“Valencia, 1808-2015. History continues” is the result of contributions by researches who participated in the II Congress of History of the City of Valencia, coordinated by Sorribes as president of the Scientific Commitee of Congress and Juan Carlos Colomer, its director.  A meeting organised by Aula Ciutat, a research group that forms a part of Instituto Interuniversitario de Desarrollo Local, managed to unite experts as important as José Luis Oyón, Jean-Luc Pinol, José Azcárraga o Vicent Monfort in February of 2015.

Researchers who have the city and the urban environment at the center of their study and whose findings encompass different areas such as urbanism, art and architecture, urban conflicts, education, demography, tourism, and of course, economy.

Since that meeting, after a year of work and thanks to financial support of Generalitat Valenciana and the collaboration of Faculties of Geography, History and Economy as well as that of Social Sciences of UV and Escola Técnica Superior d’Arquitectura de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, all of the effort made by the researchers has resulted first in an e-book published by Balandra Edicions and now in the paper publication of the book which has been presented this morning and which condenses all of this research about contemporary history of the city.

During the presentation, Josep Sorriber, deeply touched, has shown his satisfaction with the result of this work which coincides with the final stage of his career at the academic institution, as he has just announced his retirement.
