
La Càtedra UNESCO d’Estudis sobre el Desenvolupament (Catalan translation for “The UNESCO Chair of the Development Studies) of the Universitat de València has resolved the call of 2014 with the license of 26,300 euros which will be set aside for the carrying out of eight training and awareness projects, consisting on dialogues, seminars, courses, debates, conferences and exhibitions, which will be developed at the Universitat during the academic year 2014-2015.
The main object for this call is to support the initiatives, activities and organised projects by members of university community to encourage the training of human development and sustainable in any discipline, and also those projects which encourage awareness on cooperation for development and fight against poverty in the world.
With this call, the UNESCO Chair collaborates, spreads and motivates the studies about human and sustainable development in teaching. It also deals with the academic and social life of the Universitat de València, as well as with the actions of awareness of this subject.
The call is being organised by the Patronat Sud-Nord of the University of Valencia General Foundation, the UNESCO Chair of Development Studies of the Universitat de València and the Internationalisation and Cooperation Vice-rector.
The resolution regards actions in every campus of the Universitat de València and it includes disciplines such as applied economy, social sciences, comparative education, employment and social affairs, women’s studies, public international law, cellular biology and history.

Food sovereignty and education for development
The first project of this call to be carried out is the “Dialogue of knowledge: Related to Food Sovereignty”, coordinated by Sergi Escribano, of the The Sustainable Earth International University, and Amat Sánchez, Department of Applied Economics professor of the Universitat de València. The training sessions will count with the intervention of several specialists, experts, university professors and member of distinguished organisation on this subject. The main object is to spread the proposals and experiences of food sovereign in the local and international field, as well as the group of politics and useful tools to face future nutrition, territorial and environmental challenges.
The course will take part from 20 to 27 February. The starting conference will take place at the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Universitat de València (Tarongers Campus) at 17h, and the other sessions at the Ximo Mora de la Casa del Alumno Hall of the Universitat Politècnica de València. Everybody has up to fifteen scholarships to complete this course.

Therefore, another project will start the call for 2014 this month, coordinated by María Jesús Martínez Usarralde, which will be developed from 27 February to 24 April at the Aulari I - Classroom 12 (Menéndez Pelayo Street) at the Blasco Ibáñez Campus. It is a second edition of the course titled: “Education will not make us different: educational tools for development to think/do/feel”. The main objects are: to think about work methodology, functions and effects; to educate oneself thanks to a practice where students are able to experiment and construct awareness-raising tools; and to raise awareness once you know the methodology, developing creativity to promote new pedagogic materials for working groups.
Lourdes Casanova, a Philosophy graduate and a diploma holder of Social Work by the Universitat de València; Begoña Itziar García-Romeu, a diploma holder of Social Education by the Universitat de València; María Jesús Martínez Usarralde, Teaching Coordinator; and Laura Romero, from the Group of Work of Education for the Development of the Valencian Coordinator of ONGD will be teaching this course.
