This Wednesday, the Universitat de València pays homage to work and thinking of the Valencian writer José Ricardo Morales, on the occasion of the centenary anniversary of his birth. Morales fled Spain at the end of Spanish Civil War and he went into exile to Chile, where he currently lives. The ceremony will start at 19:00 in La Nau Cultural Centre.

During the Second Spanish Republic as well as during his Chilean exile, he has written a large literary work and essays. He was born in Málaga in 1915; however, his family soon came back to Valencia after they had moved on by a short period of time to Andalusia. José Ricardo Morales studied Teacher Training and Philosophy and Humanities in the Universitat de València. He met intellectuals such as Juan Gil-Albert, Vicente Gaos and Josep Renau before Spanish Civil War started.

The homage will start with the premiere of José Ricardo Morales, de mar a mar a documentary realised by Jorge Catalá and Pablo Valdivia, lecturers of the University of Newcastle and Amsterdam University, respectively, along with the support of the film producer Malvalanda. In 2011, these lecturers travelled to Chile with the aim to realise some audiovisual testimony of life, work and thinking of Morales. After the premiere of this documentary, Pablo Valdivia will launch his book José Ricardo Morales de mar a mar. Teatro transnacional, exilio y periferia.

This ceremony will take place in Seminar Rooms of La Nau Cultural Centre. It is organised by Master's Degree in Interculturalism, Communication and European Studies and Debate Forum of the Universitat de València. It will be attended by lecturers Jorge Català and Pablo Valdivia, who will be presented by Manuel de la Fuente, lecturer of Audiovisual Communication of the Universitat de València.
