Last February 27th, Universitat de València hosted the presentation of the V Congrés d’Escola Valenciana titled ‘L’Escola en valencià: un model de qualitat més enllà del plurilingüisme’ (the school in Valencian: a qualitiy model beyong multilingualism). The Vice-principal for Studies and Language Policy, Isabel Vázquez, and the president of Escola Valenciana, Vicent Moreno, attended the event, celebrated at the Office of the Principal’s building. The congress opening lecture is scheduled for next February 4th at the Facultat de Filologia, Traducció i Communicació.
The Vice-principal for Studies and Language Policy, Isabel Vázquez, stressed that ‘for the Universitat it is a pleasure to support and collaborate with Escola Valenciana’s projects because it has conducted a hard work for a quality school in Valencian language over 25 years’. ‘Our university totally agrees with this idea.’ She recalled that ‘we are the university with the highest teaching in Valencian language.’ The Universitat and Escola Valenciana have another point in common: the spread of Valencian culture through Valencian language.
Vicent Moreno, president of Escola Valenciana, thanked Universitat de València for its collaboration in the congress. According to Moreno, ‘we are looking for areas of consensus which will allow us to work for a quality teaching in Valencian language in new circumstances. We face classrooms full of students form different origins. The role of parents and social actions are crucial, as well as new technologies as new teaching tools… multilingualism is in our daily lifes and we must reconsider things like sustainability.’
The congress opening ceremony is scheduled for next February the 4th at the Facultat de Filologia, Traducció i Comunicació. First, there will be a round table where several teaching professionals will discuss on the current public education system in Valencian.
Then, a framework conference by Federico Mayor Zaragoza, who is the person in charge of the UNESCO’s Fundación Cultura de Paz, will take place after the Universitat de València`s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, introduces it.
