Last Saturday, the 17th December, the cultural centre La Nau hosted the celebrations of Amnesty International’s 50 anniversary. During the event, the prizes ‘Microrrelatos’ were awarded by the Amnesty International group of Valencia and a string concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra’s band Camerata die Junge Musik was hold at Capella de la Sapiencia hall.
Several activities were completed by the exhibition Defensores, the showing by AI to commemorate its anniversary at La Nau’s Sala Thesaurus. This same place hosts the showing Siete reportajes para la inclusión social by Red Europea de Lucha Contra la Pobreza (European Anti Poverty Network). This network is a group of NGOs committed with social inclusion of poor and socially excluded people. Both exhibitions opened yesterday, December the 19th at 19:00, and are running to January the 8th . Moreover, La Nau inaugurated yesterday two social exhibitions:

Amnesty International in Spain organizes a photographic exhibition on the defenders of human rights who, 60 years after the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, keep on fighting in many countries for people’s dignity.
The photographer Sofía Moro, after studying at Brooks Institute of Photography, came back to Spain in 1993 and began to work for the agency Cover. From 2000, she works as a freelancer. Her last book, Ellos y nosotros (2006), about the major figures in the Spanish Civil War, has been published by Blume. She collaborates with Amnesty International from 2005.
This exhibition, showing 35 big photographic portraits by Sofía Moro, tributes the defenders, who are the true face of human rights. Each portrait shows a brief human profile of the defender, which aims to bring the public closer to the fight and committmen of these people. A book including all the portraints and profiles and signed by the general secretary of Amnesty International, Irene Khan, is available at the exhibition.

The Eurpean Anti Poverty Network in Spain (EAPN-ES) is a group of NGOs committed with social inclusion of poor and socially excluded people. It is currently made up of 18 regional networks and 14 state entities. Among its goals, it tries to implement networking, so that cooperative work could be done and bigger and better results in the fight against poverty and exclusion in Spain could be achieved.
Xarxa d’Entitats per la Inclusió Social de la Comunitat Valencia is atteched to European Anti Poverty Network. Nowadays, it gathers 18 NGOs workin against social exclusion and poverty in the Valencian Community.
The travelling exhibition Siete reportajes para la inclusión en la Comunidad Valenciana shows seven stories describing and analyzing the reality of seven people at risk of social exclusion: migration, gypsies, homeless, refugees, etc.
The materials used for the exhibition were from the several workshops previously organized by Xarxa in order to train and prepare people living in these exclusion circumstances.
The exhibiton was created as a way of raising awareness among the social groups living in similar circumstances. It also intended to let them know that the situation can change.
The photographers are Bustamante, Alberto Sáiz, Biel Aliño, Ana Yturralde, Benito Pajares, Daniel García Sala, Eva Máñez. y los redactores: Xavier Aliaga, Héctor Gozalvo, Anna Gimeno, Teresa Domínguez, Paco Simón, Joan M. Oleaque and Nuria Tendeiro. The exhibitions shows a documentary by Samuel Sebastian.
