Universitat de València regrets the disproportionate reaction that followed the students’ protest march

According to Universitat de València, criticism and social protest carried out by peaceful means is a citizens’ constitutional right. Faced with the recent demonstrations and protest marches organized by students in Valencia, the university considers that the security forces’ reaction has been disproportionate and may lead to violence escalation of unpredictable consequences. Universitat de València claims the restoration of dialogue and communication to overcome the current atmosphere of conflict.

Last Tuesday evening, some students’ groups asked to go in the Universitat de València’s Facultat de Geografia i Història to hold a meeting. Both the Dean’s and the Principal’s teams authorized the use of university spaces in accordance with the spirit of promotion of dialogue as the best way to resolve conflicts and find solutions.

At the same time, the university authorities rejected any police intervention in the university’s facilities.

Over the past few days, the office of the Principal has expressed its concern for the students who had been arrested during the protest marches, as well as for the probable conflict’s development. The Universitat de València trusts the return to normal life soon.

Universitat de València has not cancelled any of its scheduled activities –like the Conéixer visits, which allows thousands of secondary education students to visit and learn the didactic offer of the university.
