
The Universitat de València will grant to the historian Paul Preston the distinction of new Doctor Honoris Causa, next Monday 26 October. The event, will start at 12:00 in the Paranimf of the historic building of La Nau. Ismael Saz will be in charge of the ‘laudatio’, full university professor of Contemporary History at Universitat de València. The principal, Esteban Morcillo, will also participate. Paul Preston (Liverpool, United Kingdom, 1946) is Prince of Asturias full professor at London School of Economics and Political Science and member of important institutions and cultural centres like European Academy of Yuste Foundation. Previously, he was professor at University of Reading and Queen Mary University of London.
Trained at University of Oxford and University of Reading, he has a recognised scientific career that accredits him as one of the most remarkable contemporary historians.
Continuer of the long tradition of British Hispanism, his first works, like ‘La destrucción de la democracia en España’ (The Destruction of Spanish Democracy) or ‘Spain in Crisis’, constituted a powerful incentive for the development of Spanish historiography.
Author of dozens of works, he has recently published the vast study ‘The Spanish Holocaust: Inquisition and Extermination During the Civil War and After’.
Professor Preston has been granted the Order of Civil Merit and the Ramon Llull International Prize, among other honours. Member of the British Academy, Appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire, he is also Knight Grand Cross of Isabella the Catholic.
