The University of Valencia asks for respect to the scientific community, and regrets the political statements for the definition of Valencian in the new dictionary of the Valencian Academy of Language (AVL). In a statement, the academic institution also requires “the observance of judicial sentences that support the linguistic unity of Valencian and Catalan”.
The statement points out: “The political statements regarding the definition of Valencian found in the new dictionary of the Valencian Academy of Language have created tension that has caused vandalism and threats to the integrity of individuals, which are unacceptable and which alter citizen coexistence”.
In the written report, the University of Valencia “refuses with maximum forcefulness the threats received by professor Ramón Ferrer, acting as Chair of the Valencian Academy of Language, and he also requests the competent authority to bring the utmost surveillance and diligence in order to prevent the reproduction of facts and, even more, its potential conversion into violent acts”.
