This Thursday, 13 March, the research unit Econcult, attached to the IIDL (Inter‐university Institute for Local Development of the University of Valencia), organizes a conference-workshop to try to get closer to the social innovation phenomenon, its measurement and its impact on the development processes.
The traditional look to the issue of innovation has focused on technological innovation and economic innovation. However, the most recent studies evinces the significance of the social and political innovation processes as tools for transforming some limited contexts of the potentials of territorial and community development.
As described in the works of the European project SOSTENUTO, the culture and creativity are a necessary catalyst of the social innovation processes and an accelerator of economic and technological innovation.
This perspective is limited by the difficulty to have reliable indicators about the effective impact in the innovation from processes based on culture and creativity. It is in this context where it is necessary to extend the conceptual frameworks on the complex definition of social innovation and to develop operational methodologies to make us realize about these impacts and they allow the evaluation, the monitoring, and enable the comparability in time and space.
The conference-workshop has the attendance of Javier Castro and Irene Unceta, members of Sinnergiak, a research group of the University of The Basque Country, who will explain the concept and methodology of the proposals of RESINDEX (Regional Social Innovation Index) and URBANSINDEX, pilot researches, which are part of the initiative for the innovation evaluation in Euskadi of INNOBASQUE (Basque Agency for Innovation). These projects try to make a model (dimensions and indicators) to develop a regional index and another urban for social innovation. The session, opened by Salomé Reillo, director of Inndea, will have the participation of Javier Castro and Irene Unceta.
Javier Castro is graduated in Sociology by the University of Buenos Aires, master’s degree in Higher Education (University of Palermo) and doctor in Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society (University of the Basque Country). Coordinator of the Research area in SINNERGIAK, Social Innovation Centre of the University of the Basque Country (2011).
The proposal is part of the European MED Project 3C4 Incubators and of the INNOVA of R+D of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and tries to continue with the research of the project SOSTENUTO which focused on culture and creativity as an element for social and economic innovation.
The workshop aims to connect the cultural and creative learning in the territory with the evaluation of its impact in terms of social innovation. This workshop continues the one held on 29 November about spaces for the social creativity and the hidden innovation.
Now there are several important institutions which have shown its interest in this emerging issue as ENGINY (CSIC-UPV), CULTURARTS, Unesco Office of intangible heritage, OTRI and INNDEA (City Council of VLC).
