The University of Valencia and the City Council of Utiel, in collaboration with IMELSA (Regionaol Government of Valencia), have held on Wednesday, September 18, the conference 'Economic crisis, globalization and emerging economies. "The Cultural Centre of the municipality hosted this forum in which specialists from the University analyzed the current state of the economic crisis, the impact of globalization on the economy and the influence of emerging economies.
Analyzing and understanding the economic crisis is the previous step to begin to overcome it. With this idea Utiel started the conference. The mayor, Jose Luis Ramirez, and the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation of the Universitat, Jorge Hermosilla, inaugurated the conference session.
Jose Luis Ramirez stressed at the opening the importance of these sessions: "The economy affects us and interests us all, so these sessions are so important to our town." Moreover, the Vice Chancellor Jorge Hermosilla said: "Through this initiative, the University of Valencia aims to educate and inform the public and also the potential impact on local development by the best specialists of the University in this field ".
The globalization of markets and the financing of the economy allowed many industrialized countries, like ours, grow excessively during the real estate boom years, but that same global market resulted years later in a serious crisis with devastating effects for some areas of planet. The globalization of markets was one of the most talked about in the papers. Professor of Applied Economics, Josep Maria Jordan Galduf, focused his speech on the international economic stage and the growth potential of the Valencian economy in the European Union framework. Behind him, Ernest Reig Martinez, Department of Applied Economics, explained the concept of competitiveness of Valencian companies worldwide in a global space, related to productivity and quality of life.
Since the outbreak of the crisis, countries until recently regarded as emerging (Brazil, India, China and South Africa) have been gaining global importance, polarizing economic interest, financial and political. These emerging economies and the consequent global economic changes, were very important in the discussion forum. Professor Alejandro Mollá Descals, Department of Marketing and Market Research, said Valencian companies must adapt to these global economic changes, as in the business world there are no borders. "Internationalization is a great growth opportunity for retailers, the business of the Valencian Country has much to gain if it adopts strategies of internationalization," he said.
Then Francisco Puig Blanco, Department of Management, focused on keys to the international entrepreneurship, because, he noted, "is in the context of business internationalization when the entrepreneur and his/her behavior become increasingly important." He said, however, that internationalization does not guarantee business success, but means a requirement.
This initiative is part of a collaborative agreement between the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation of the University and the City Council of Utiel. It is an agreement that aims to bring the University to the local society and transfer knowledge of teaching and research staff to the residents of the villages in their area of influence.
