VII Trofeu Universitat de València started last Saturday, March 24th, at Pelayo court. The first semifinal had Soro III and Dani, and León, Félix and Héctor. This is one of the short tournaments in the annual calendar, which is having the best players again. As usual, entrance is free for the university community.
Pelayo trinquet is hosting all the tournament’s matches. After the first semifinal last Saturday, where the current singles runner-up, Soro III, and the winner in the Circuit Bancaixa, Dani, faced a powerful players’ trio, the Trofeu is being put off until next April 7th. Then, the second semifinal will be played: Álvaro, Jesús and Tomàs vs. Fageca, Javi and Santi.
On this second match, the other runners-up in the professional league, Álvaro and Fageca, will participate, along with another outstanding player, Javi. The match is going to take place a week after the end of Circuit Bancaixa, so it could be seen as a return game between the two best servers in the professional league. The winners of the semifinals will play for the trophy a week later, April 14th.
Trofeu Universitari de València has the goal of bringing the university community and Valencian pilota’s sport closer. That is why entrance is free for students, lecturers and administrative staff upon showing of UV’s cards.
