Travelling exhibition that brings back into focus Enrique Rambal, a leading 20th-century Spanish theatre actor born in Utiel.
The travelling exhibition Enrique Rambal. A Forgotten Genius explores the life and career of Enrique Rambal García (Utiel, 1884 – Valencia, 1956), an actor, director and theatre producer and one of the key figures behind the development of spectacular theatre in the first half of the 20th century.
The exhibition traces his artistic journey from his beginnings in Utiel to his major stage productions, international tours in the Americas and his relationship with cinema. Through original costumes from the Casa Insa collection, preserved at l’ETNO (Valencian Museum of Ethnology), together with photographic and graphic materials, it reconstructs the creative universe of an artist who transformed the stage into a space of visual impact, emotion and modernity, placing his work at the forefront of theatrical spectacle of his time.
The opening will take place on 27 March 2026 at 19:00 at the Casa de Cultura in Utiel (c/ Camino, 1), on the occasion of World Theatre Day, marking the beginning of its tour across different towns in the Valencian region. In Utiel, the artist’s hometown, the exhibition will be open from 27 March to 5 May 2026.
The exhibition is part of the commemorative programme Enrique Rambal: tribute events on the 70th anniversary of his death, promoted by the Universitat de València together with other institutions, including exhibitions, theatre performances, academic activities and a special edition of the University Seasonal Programme in Utiel dedicated to the actor.
