Caviardage competition
Caviardage competition

Caviardage, or blackout poetry, is a technique that combines writing and artistic expression. It consists of removing words from a text until a single message is visible. In some way, it can be compared to a creative and artistic censorship!

To participate, you have to tear out a page from any book. If your temperament prevents you from doing so, as it happens to us, you can photocopy it or come to Blasco Ibáñez Language Learning Centre to pick a page up. Once you have the page, we advise you to read it several times until a word or expression inspires you to create a new sentence (or sentences). Please, follow these rules:

  • It is not necessary to understand the whole text.
  • Do not add words to the text.
  • The words must be readable in the natural order (from top to bottom and from left to right).
  • Spelling and grammar must be respected.
  • Both the language and the artistic presentation will be valued.
  • A maximum of one entry per language can be submitted (Catalan, English, French, German, Italian and French).

This competition is open to the entire university community of the UV: students, staff and people who are part of the Alumni collective. Entries can be submitted until 28 April. Between 1 and 12 May, the works submitted can be voted on. The prizes will be awarded on 19 May.

The originals must be presented at the Blasco Ibáñez Language Learning Centre (Physiotherapy - Physical Activity and Sports Sciences faculties, ground floor). The voting will be both at the Language Learning Centre and on the social networks of the Languages Service (@llenguesuv). A prize of a set of books will be awarded to one work in each of the languages of the competition: Catalan, English, French, German and Italian.

ScheduleFrom 22 february 2023 to 28 april 2023. Every day at 09:00 to 23:59.
