At the request of the Secretary of State for Universities, today the MECD-CRUE joint committee has been set up to study the improvement of the Spanish university system. In a climate of collaboration and dialogue, a general reflection has been made on the issues of greatest impact on the current situation, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms of quality assurance in the accreditation of degree programs, faculty, centers, departments and universities.
The Comission has initiated the analysis, which will be developed in depth in the following meetings with the aim of reaching the corresponding reform agreements in the current framework. To this effect, it is expected to hold another meeting at the end of June.
On CRUE's behalf starts now a process of debate and study of proposals in each of the identified areas. The CRUE Presidency will call for a General Assembly where the basic lines will be laid out and the corresponding proposals fixed, about the matters amended by the Sectorial Commissions.
The CRUE representatives have expressed their worries on the dificult situation that university communities are going through as a consequence of budget adjustment policies that have been adopted at a national and regional level, as well as the necessity to preserve, with priority, the equality of opportunities to access and keep studying at the university.
