Saturday 23 December at 8pm, the book Joan Fuster. Escrits sobre el ‘Tirant lo Blanc’ will be presented. The event will take place at the Ateneo de Bétera and will be attended by Albert Dasí and Mireia Ferrando, author of the book.

Joan Fuster was particularly interested in Tirant lo Blanc throughout his life, but his approaches to one of the top novels of medieval Catalan literature have, until now, been discussed very little. Fuster’s interpretations are dealt with in miniscule detail in this study, which traces the chronology of Fuster’s interest in the work and also analyses how the writer fought to re-establish Tirant as a classic of Catalan medieval literature in the midst of the repressive climate of Franco’s regime. Extensive documentation research has allowed for his many and varied writings on Tirant--newspaper articles, studies, letters, lectures, etc.--to be compiled. Together, these writings form a collection, published and annotated for the first time, of historical-literary testimony of the highest calibre, finally put into perspective. This monograph, which was honoured with the Joan Coromines Award for linguistic, historical and cultural research (2022) of the Micalet Choral Society, adds a new and invaluable perspective to Joan Fuster’s invaluable contribution to the knowledge and understanding of our cultural history.
