The main objective of the Climate, Atmosphere and Ocean Laboratory (Climatoc-Lab) of the CIDE-CSIC is to advance in the study of climate variability and the development of climate services at different spatio-temporal scales. In a context of climate change of anthropogenic origin, the priority line of research focuses on improving the knowledge of observed and simulated changes in wind speed and its extremes ("stilling" vs. "reversal" phenomena), the attribution of the causes that originate them and their socioeconomic and environmental impacts: wind energy, wind erosion, desertification, etc. The study of multidecadal changes and variability of other climatic elements are also the subject of this line of research. The research is based on historical instrumental series, including the rescue, digitization and homogenization of climate data; and past and future climate simulations. The influence of atmosphere-ocean oscillations and their interaction with other environmental (vegetation dynamics) or anthropogenic (land use changes) processes are key in our studies to explain climate variability and climate change. The research team is formed by multidisciplinary academic profiles (geographers, physicists, oceanographers), with funding and active collaborations with other national and international groups, and with modern tools for climate research. The Climatoc-Lab is part of the PTI "Climate" of the CSIC
