The Faculty of Geography and History has cancelled its planned welcome event following the declaration of emergency level 2 by the UV and given the possibility that the weather conditions may worsen. Students will still be able to take part in the BenvingudaUV at the Blasco Ibáñez campus on 22 October, a major event organised by the SEDI, providing an opportunity to discover the services, resources and ways to participate in university life

The Faculty of Geography and History has decided to cancel the welcome event it had organised for new students.

This decision has been taken responsibly and as a precaution, following the declaration of emergency level 2 by the Universitat de València and given the possibility that the weather conditions may worsen, in accordance with guidance from Civil Protection, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency and other official bodies. All members of the university community are advised to follow the latest information and instructions exclusively through official channels.

The cancellation is intended to avoid unnecessary travel and gatherings during adverse weather conditions. Although this decision may cause inconvenience, the safety of students, university staff and everyone who had planned to take part in the event must take precedence over any other consideration.

A special apology to first-year students

The Faculty would particularly like to apologise to first-year students on all its degree programmes. The event had been planned to provide an initial meeting point, help students get to know each other and offer a warm welcome to those beginning their university journey this year.

We understand that the first few weeks at university can bring questions, concerns and difficulties in adapting to a new environment. Cancelling the event does not mean that new students will be left without support. The Faculty Dean’s Office remains available to help with any problems or situations that may arise during the opening weeks of the academic year.

In particular, the Vice-Dean’s Office for Culture and Student Participation remains fully available to support students, listen to their needs and explain anything they may need to know about how the Faculty and university life operate. No question is insignificant when beginning a new stage. We want everyone joining the Faculty to know where to go and to receive a helpful and approachable response whenever difficulties arise.

Our thanks to everyone involved

The Faculty would like to express its sincere gratitude to everyone who had shown an interest in the event and contributed to its organisation.

We would particularly like to thank the people from the horchata company and the dolçaina and tabalet musicians, who have remained attentive to developments and willing to adapt to the Faculty’s needs throughout the process.

Their understanding, approachability and willingness to accommodate successive changes deserve our explicit recognition and gratitude.

The welcome celebrations will continue on 22 October at the Blasco Ibáñez campus

The cancellation of the Faculty event does not mean that students will miss out on a welcome activity.

On Thursday 22 October, the Blasco Ibáñez campus will host BenvingudaUV 2026-2027, an excellent university-wide event promoted by the Vicerectorat d’Estudis i Qualitat and organised by the Sedi – Servei d’Informació i Dinamització d’Estudiants.

The BenvingudaUV will take place from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm in the inner area between the Espai Vives and teaching buildings I and III. The event will be a major meeting point open to the university community and is particularly intended to help first-year students discover, in one location, the opportunities offered by the Universitat de València beyond the classroom.

Throughout the morning, there will be information stands run by the University’s services and units, as well as student associations and groups. Those attending will be able to obtain information about:

  • languages and language policy;
  • international mobility and Erasmus+ programmes;
  • grants, financial support and student services;
  • culture and sport;
  • volunteering, cooperation and sustainability;
  • equality, diversity and disability support;
  • employment, placements and entrepreneurship;
  • libraries, publications and other university resources;
  • and the different ways to participate in university life.

Students will be able to ask questions directly to staff from the different services, discover student associations and groups, and learn about resources that may be especially useful during their first year.

Numerous services, units and initiatives from the Universitat de València are expected to take part in the BenvingudaUV, including the Consell de l’Estudiantat, Centre d’Idiomes UV, Servei d’Esports, Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació, UVCultura, Servei de Llengües i Política Lingüística, Erasmus+ FORTHEM, Unitat d’Igualtat i Diversitat, UVdiscapacitat, UVemprén, UVocupació and UVsostenibilitat, among others.

The event will also include a social and relaxation area, with music by DJ Soumz and DJ Grip, as well as horchata or lemon granita while stocks last. Those wishing to receive a drink will first need to collect a voucher from the organisers’ stand.

The Faculty particularly encourages all first-year students to attend this major welcome event. It has been designed to celebrate the beginning of the academic year, bring students together and provide a broad overview of the services, resources and opportunities for participation that form part of the university experience.
