The Faculty of Geography and History at the University of Valencia will hold an open welcome event on Thursday, 17 September for new and returning students, featuring an institutional reception, information stands, academic activities, traditional dolçaina and tabalet music, a photo booth, and complimentary horchata or lemon slush with a farton pastry

The Faculty of Geography and History at the University of Valencia will hold its Welcome Day for the 2026-2027 academic year on Thursday, 17 September 2026. The event is aimed both at students beginning their university studies this year and at returning students continuing their education at the Faculty.

The day has been designed as a meeting point where students can become familiar with the Faculty, discover the resources available across the University of Valencia, and share the start of the academic year with students from different degree programmes. The programme brings together academic guidance, student participation, Valencian culture, university services and sustainable mobility.

An institutional and academic welcome

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Joan Fuster Assembly Hall with an institutional reception. The Faculty will introduce its main areas of action, including academic organisation, mobility and international relations, quality and educational innovation, culture and student participation, entrepreneurship, employability, administration and student support programmes.

The ceremony will include the presentation of commemorative certificates to the recipients of the 2024-2025 Extraordinary Degree Awards, as well as an introduction to initiatives led by student representatives. Afterwards, departments will organise subject-specific activities to introduce students to their fields of knowledge, working methods and learning opportunities.

University services within easy reach

From 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the outdoor area between the Faculty cafeteria and the Joan Reglà Humanities Library will host a broad information zone. Students will be able to learn directly about mentoring, library and map collection resources, languages, sport, cooperation, sustainability, equality, diversity, disability support, entrepreneurship, employability and student participation.

The aim is to show that university life is also built beyond the classroom: through language learning, sport, volunteering, international mobility, entrepreneurial ideas, inclusion resources, and participation in cultural and student-led projects.

Urban mobility and connections with Valencian society

One of the most distinctive features of the 2026 edition is the participation of services from outside the University of Valencia. Metrovalencia, EMT València and Valenbisi will provide practical information on public transport, bicycle sharing and sustainable ways of travelling to the Faculty.

Their participation extends the welcome beyond the strictly academic sphere and links university life with the city. Reaching the campus, travelling independently and understanding local transport options are all part of an accessible, sustainable university experience that is fully integrated into Valencia.

Dolçaina, tabalet and Valencian culture

From 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., an itinerant performance featuring the traditional Valencian dolçaina and tabalet will turn the area around the Faculty into a shared cultural space. Valencian traditional music will therefore play a central role in a day designed to connect university life, culture and belonging.

During the same period, students will be offered complimentary horchata or lemon slush with a farton pastry, while supplies last. The GeoHist photo booth, available for much of the day, will invite students to share photographs and messages celebrating the start of the academic year.

Six degrees for understanding the world

The event reflects the diversity of a Faculty offering degrees in History, Art History, Geography and the Environment, Archaeology, Information and Documentation, and a Double Degree in Archaeology and History.

These programmes enable students to interpret historical processes, analyse territories and environmental challenges, investigate and protect archaeological and artistic heritage, and organise, preserve and transform information into knowledge. GeoHist therefore provides interdisciplinary education with applications in teaching, culture, heritage, archives, libraries, records management, research, spatial planning, sustainability and digital transformation.

Through this initiative, the Faculty reinforces its commitment to an approachable, inclusive and participatory university that is closely connected to Valencian society. The goal is for every student to find information, support and opportunities from the very first day, helping them build their own academic, professional and personal path.
