
Traffic signs reading difficulties are evaluated. With the participation of people, with and without driving licence, between the ages of 18 and 55 with reading difficulties.
Universitat de València ERI-Reading is developing a research line about the impact of dyslexia in adult life. A new study has started, financed by Directorate General of Traffic, where the evaluate the difficulties that may encounter when reaing the information in the traffic signs as for examples variable message panels. The study will allow to identify the specific driver’s needs with dyslexia and also proposing ergonomic measures to improve the legibility of signs for all drivers.
Security and traffic flow demand drivers can read quickly and precisely. However, it is estimated that 1 to 2 million drivers in Spain could have difficulties in reading such as dyslexia. If we do not take specific measures (as for example, adapted designs more accesible for all), those drivers could find dificult to access and comprehend the information given by this signs.
