Academic, scientific or professional interest: The development of new medicines, as well as their appropriate use, is essential to the health and progress of a society. The factors involved in the development of new drugs, from the initial idea or discovery to their appropriate use in patients, are numerous and highly diverse; therefore, integrated and interactive training amongst professionals from different areas of healthcare and related fields enables the education of future professionals to be expanded. In this way, media-influenced or, at the very least, biased information about the medicine is avoided, and the healthcare professional’s ability to screen, select and discern is improved, with the aim of applying, with sound judgement (rational use), the most appropriate care pathway for each patient.
