The future secondary education teachers visited Rincón de Ademuz to gain awareness on the importance of their teaching labour in rural areas.
On Friday, 24 November 2023, the students of Group 1 of the Geography and History speciality of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education Teaching had the opportunity to see the reality of an educational centre, IES Ademuz, in a region with severe social and environmental problematics.
The activity is part of the “Teaching innovation and introduction to educational research in the speciality of geography and history” and “Learning and teaching geography and history” subjects, taught by the professors Paula Jardón and Diego García Monteagudo, respectively. During several sessions previous to the trip, both professors prepared materials and didactic resources with the group to carry out activities with the secondary education students of IES Ademuz.
On arrival to IES Ademuz, the students of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education Teaching were received by the school’s management team. They explained them the functioning of the centre, which acts as the region’s headquarters.
Afterward, the students have taught some workshops on different topics (related to Prehistory in 1st of ESO and to depopulation in 3rd of ESO).
Then, the students visited the San Guillermo Monastery setting, an educational workshop in the town of Castielfabib, with an explanation provided by professor Dr. Emilio Iranzo García (Department of Geography of the Universitat de València) on the safe-keeping of the territory and the recovery of landscapes as supporting elements of social and economic development.
All of this allows approaching an interdisciplinary education, with the usage of innovative methodologies (service learning) so future secondary education teachers become aware of the importance of their teaching labour in geographical areas such as Rincón de Ademuz.
This activity is framed within two Projects of Educational Innovation (PIEE) of the Universitat de València:
- Training and teaching praxis in social and environmental problems with an international perspective: analysis and execution of didactic proposals for sustainable citizens (UV-SFPIE_PIEE-2710783).
- ApS GEODIDACT RINCÓN: shared construction of an educational workshop outdoors (UV-SFPIE_PIEE-2736601).
