"Organized is better than smart: a guide to data arrangement and visualization" (Ana Baciero, Bournemouth University, UK). On-line.
Resumen: In this session we will show you how to make simple and effective statistical graphs using the software environment R, which you can use in your works and assignments.

29 de novembre, 12:00-13:30 h. "How helpful is a specialist typeface for children with dyslexia?" (Daisy Powell, University of Reading, UK). On-line.
Resum: Children with dyslexia are at risk of poor academic attainment and lower life chances if they do not receive the support they need. This presentation will discuss the effects of using specialist dyslexia typefaces on students' reading skills.

2 de desembre, 10:45-12:15 h. "Personality and Culture" (Velichko Fetvadjiev, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands). On-line.
Resum: In 1961, Kluckhohn and Murray wrote, “Every man is in certain respects (a) like all other men, (b) like some other men, (c) like no other men”. This aphorism captures well the
different perspectives both on personality and its interplay with culture. In this lecture, we will discuss how similar or different personality is around the world, and how research in this field helps address some of the big questions in psychology.

2 de desembre, 12:00-13:00 h. "Scary Numbers (and how Maths Anxiety affects Maths Performance)" (Terje Throndsen, University of Oslo, Noruega). PRESENCIAL: Sala de Juntes.
Resum: Maths Anxiety is well known to have a negative relationship with maths performance, but we are still lacking details on the mechanisms behind this relationship. It has been proposed that the worrying thoughts associated with Maths Anxiety take up some of the Working Memory capacity needed for problem-solving. In our studies, we have used pupillometry to investigate if Maths Anxiety has an effect on the level of cognitive effort utilised when solving maths problems.

12 de desembre, 10:30-12:00 h. "Fostering reading comprehension: Acting on the text to support the reader" (Christian Tarchi, Universidad de Florencia, Italia). On-line.
Resum: In this class I will discuss a few examples of manipulation of the text that can facilitate (or hinder sometimes) students’ learning. I will discuss the need for other types of instructional support when the text manipulation does not work.
