Language services for incoming students

Valencian Workshops: language and cultural workshops to facilitate the full integration of international students.

Do you want to take part in the local culture and language? Workshop leaders will introduce a wide variety of topics, including practical issues such as language resources, housing or public transportation, and also local customs.

Tastallengües: an event to welcome international students that promotes multilingualism and language exchanges with local students.

The University organises this event at the beginning of the semester to help you meet local and other international students and practise languages in a casual context. Food and music are provided for free, and you are welcome to bring food and drinks of your culture.

Free A1 & A2 Catalan courses for international students.

The University has two official languages: Catalan (known locally as valencià) and Spanish (often referred to as castellà). Both are used for academic and administrative purposes, as well as in daily life. Catalan is easy to understand and learn, especially if you already know another Romance language, such as Italian, French, Portuguese, Romanian or Spanish. With 10 million speakers, it's the official language in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Country, Eastern Aragon, Andorra and Alghero (Italy). Take advantage of this opportunity and join a free UV Catalan course (A1 or A2).

Subsidised Spanish and other languages courses at the Centre d'Idiomes (University languages school).

The Centre d'Idiomes offers University members convenient courses in several languages including Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Italian and German. The Languages Service subsidises the enrolment fees.

Materials and advice for language self-learning in the languages learning centres (CALs).

The UV has three languages learning centres (CAL, Centre d'Aprenentatge de Llengües), one on each campus (Blasco Ibáñez, Burjassot-Paterna and Els Tarongers). Self-learning materials, music, books and films are provided. The languages currently available are Catalan, Spanish, English, French, German, Chinese, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Arabic. Conversation groups and expert tuition are offered for some languages.

Online language exchanges to find people to exchange languages with.

You can freely arrange language exchanges with as many people as you wish and in as many languages as you want, anytime, using our community.
