The European Directive 2009/41/EC defines genetically modified micro-organism as “micro-organisms in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination”.
The contained use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is regulated in many countries. Thus, recipients of CECT GMOs must observe their national regulations when ordering and using such strains. Likewise, GMO depositors are requested to provide as much information as possible when depositing strains at the CECT in order to facilitate compliance with Spanish regulatory requirements.
At the CECT, if the information provided by the depositors indicates that the strain is or can be a GMO, such information is displayed in the strain datasheet, accessible through the public catalogue.
