Dr. Laura Esteve Alguacil is a postdoctoral researcher in Law at the University of València, where she works at the University Institute of Women's Studies (IUED) and the Department of Political Legal Philosophy. She specializes in family law, gender studies, comparative legal analysis, and socio-legal methods. Her research and teaching expertise encompass gender relations, LGBTQI+ rights, reproduction and parenthood relations, legal theory, family law, and succession law.

Dr. Esteve Alguacil holds a PhD in Law from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2023), awarded cum laude with International Mention. Her doctoral thesis, "Stepfamilies and Parentality: A Comparative Legal Study to Redefine Family Links," was published by Aranzadi in 2024 and earned her the XVII Extraordinary Prize of the Doctoral Program in Law (2025). Her research examines how legal systems respond to diverse family formations, with particular attention to stepfamilies, multiparenthood, and trans parenthood.

She has been a visiting scholar at Cornell Law School (funded by the Dorothea S. Clarke Program in Feminist Jurisprudence) and the International Institute of Sociology of Law in Oñati. Her work has been published in leading journals including InDret, International Journal of Law, Policy and the Family, and VerfBlog. She has also lead several research projects examining legal gender recognition, pregnant women's rights, and parental coordination in cases of gender-based violence.

Her teaching experience spans multiple institutions, including Universitat de València, Universitat de Barcelona, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where she has taught courses on civil law, family law, succession law, legal theory, and feminist theory. At the University of València, she currently teaches Theory of Law and several courses in the Master's Degree in Gender and Equality Policies. She also contributes to judicial training through the Centre d'Estudis Jurídics i Formació Especialitzada in Catalunya.

She chooses her research interests because of their close connections with other social sciences and the opportunity they provide for political and philosophical reflection. Her work bridges legal scholarship with feminist theory and socio-legal approaches, contributing to national and international debates on family diversity, gender equality, and human rights in contemporary legal systems.
