
The QS World University Rankings by Subject, a classification of academic reputation and citations of scientific articles, has placed the University of Valencia (UV) as the fifth best Spanish institution in Natural Sciences and Life Sciences and Medicine, areas in which it occupies world positions 185 and 229, respectively. The UV is also the first Valencian university in 14 of the analysed disciplines.
By subject, according to this ranking, UV is Spain’s first in Agriculture and Forestry (51-100 worldwide) and in four more subjects it is among the 200 best in the world: Accounting and Finance, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Physics and Astronomy and Chemistry. It is also the best Valencian university in Agriculture and Forestry, Biological Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Law, Economics and Econometrics, Education, Business Studies and Administration, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Physics and Astronomy, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Medicine, Psychology and Chemistry.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject is carried out by Quacquarelli Symond. By subject, 48 disciplines (specific subject) and 5 areas of knowledge (broad subject) are included, which analyse the academic reputation of the employer, citations and the H Index, an indicator of professional quality of the research staff based on the number of citations received by published articles.
At a Valencian level, the University is the first in four of the five areas of knowledge of the classification (Arts and Humanities, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management) and second in Engineering and Technology.
In detail by subject, the academic institution is among the four best in Spain in Physics and Astronomy and Chemistry, and among the five best in Biological Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Pharmacy and Pharmacology and Psychology. In addition, it is among the six best in Medicine and among the 7 best in Education and Chemical Engineering.
In the classification at regional level, the University of Valencia ranks first in Agriculture and Forest Sciences, Biological Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Law, Economics and Econometrics, Education, Business Studies and Administration, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Physics and Astronomy, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Medicine, Psychology and Chemistry. It is in second position in Environmental Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mathematics.
Regarding the same classification of 2019, the University of Valencia has advanced internationally in Agriculture and Forest Sciences (from section 101-151 to the current 51-100) and in Pharmacy and Pharmacology (from 201-250 to 151-200).
