Born in the city of Valencia in 1951, Francisco Javier Boix Reig graduated in Law from the University of Valencia in 1973, receiving the Extraordinary Award for Academic Excellence. He earned his PhD from the same university in 1976, also graduating with the Extraordinary Doctoral Award. In 1974, he was additionally awarded the Fundación Cañada-Blanch Prize.

He began his academic career at the University of Valencia as a research fellow of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, later holding positions as Interim Associate Professor and Tenured Assistant Professor. In 1981, he was appointed Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Palma de Mallorca; in 1982, he joined the University of Alicante, and in 1989 he returned to the University of Valencia. Since then, he has remained at the service of the institution, responding to the needs of successive university leadership teams while consistently upholding and promoting the values of the public university embodied by the University of Valencia.

Throughout his academic career, Professor Boix Reig has pursued an extensive research activity. He carried out research stays at the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg, supported by fellowships from the Max Planck Society and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He has served as Principal Investigator on several research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and has participated in many others. He is the author of numerous books and scholarly articles on a wide range of topics in Criminal Law. He has supervised thirteen doctoral dissertations, ten of which were defended at the University of Valencia, and has made an outstanding contribution to the training of university academics, establishing a distinguished academic school currently comprising full professors, associate professors, permanent lecturers, assistant professors and doctoral researchers at the Universities of Valencia, Alicante and Huelva.

During his academic career, he has held numerous university management positions, including Secretary of the University Institute of Criminology at the University of Valencia; Deputy Director of the University Institute of Criminology at the Complutense University of Madrid; Director of the University of Alicante Branch of the Complutense University Institute of Criminology; Head of the Department of Criminal Law at the Universities of Valencia, Palma de Mallorca and Alicante; Vice-Rector for University Extension at the University of Palma de Mallorca; Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Alicante; and Acting Rector of the University of Alicante. In 1986, the University of Alicante awarded him its Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to the institution.

Professor Boix Reig serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and is a member of various editorial advisory boards. He is a permanent member of the Criminal Law Section of the General Codification Commission of the Spanish Ministry of Justice. Since 1985, he has been a Full Member of the Valencian Institution for Studies and Research "Alfons el Magnànim", and since 2002 he has been a Full Member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of the Valencian Community.

Throughout the last thirty years, he has combined his academic career with the practice of law. On several occasions, he has placed his professional expertise at the service of the University of Valencia by voluntarily undertaking the legal defence of cases involving the Rectorate, members of the academic staff, administrative personnel, or students, thereby once again demonstrating his loyalty to the institution. In recognition of his professional career, he was awarded the Gold Insignia of the Valencia Bar Association.

His work as a lawyer has never prevented him from continuing his teaching duties, to which he has remained firmly committed throughout his career.

All these achievements clearly demonstrate that Professor Francisco Javier Boix Reig possesses more than sufficient merits to be awarded the Medal of the University of Valencia, not only in recognition of his outstanding work as Professor of Criminal Law in its teaching and research dimensions, but above all for his commitment and dedication to the university community, his steadfast defence and promotion of the values of the public university, and the profound influence these values have had on both his academic and professional career.
