After the opening, professor Joaquín Martín Cubas (Department of Constitutional Law, Political and Administrative Sciences) started his talk with an analysis on how to promote local development through a good democratic governance. According to his words, this must be based on “encouraging strategic holistic approaches that take advantage of all of the material and human resources of a town, to stimulate the learning and innovation, to mobilise the population and to make it the protagonist of its own future”.

Then, the full university professor Joan Ramón Sanchis Palacio (Department of Business Administration Juan José Renau Piqueras and the University Research Institute of Social Economy, Cooperativism and Entrepreneurship) gave a lecture called “The entrepreneurship from Cooperative and Social Economy”. He also referred to the need of creating socially responsible enterprises, with a social purpose and in which people are the keys to their growth. Such enterprises must be the base of a new productive model firmly based on knowledge, human capital and investigation. In the countryside, these initiatives are of great significance, he added.
