Marcela Lagarde de los Rios (Mexico City, 1948), full professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, anthropologist and feminist, will give a lecture in the auditorium of the UV on Monday, May 5, at 19:00 pm. The conference will focus on 'femicide', a concept coined by her to refer to State crimes against women.

Lagarde has been the creator of this concept which is considered a part of the theoretical background of feminism. According to the feminist anthropologist, "femicide" includes the group of crimes against humanity crimes; such as abductions, disappearances of women and girls in the presence of an institutional collapse. A fracture in the rule of law favours impunity to these crimes.
Lagarde is Professor of the Master's Degree in Anthropology and Sociology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and adviser of the Graduate Gender Studies Foundation of Guatemala and the Diploma in Gender and Development, UNAM. She has been a member of the Mexican Federal Congress (2003-2006), where he served as president of the Special Commission to hear and follow up on research related to the murders of women in Mexico.
Also noteworthy is the concept of 'sisterhood' as another of her contributions to feminist vocabulary, it is understood as the recognition and women's unity in their public activities.
